State Ranking Methodology

State Volleyball Power Score (SVPS)

SVPS = (Peak Quality × 0.25) + (Elite Strength × 0.25) + (Adjusted Average × 0.20) + (Breadth × 0.20) + (Elite Density × 0.10). All components normalized to 0-100 scale.

Components

  • Peak Quality (25%): Average score of top 3 clubs. Measures the ceiling of a state's volleyball programs.
  • Elite Strength (25%): Number of elite clubs (above national 75th percentile). Rewards volleyball infrastructure.
  • Adjusted Average (20%): Bayesian-adjusted average club score blended with national average. Prevents small-sample inflation.
  • Breadth (20%): Total club count relative to largest state. Rewards deep volleyball ecosystems.
  • Elite Density (10%): Percentage of elite clubs. Rewards high concentration of quality programs.
