This isn’t an opinion poll. Every number here is computed from real match results: each club’s score rolls up from its constituent teams’ Elo ratings, weighted by how many of those teams compete at the elite level (1700+ Elo). How we computed this list

Each club’s score is a weighted blend of (a) the average Elo rating of its teams and (b) the count of teams competing above the 1700-Elo elite threshold. Elo updates after every match using a K-factor of 32, with margin-of-victory adjustment and a strength-of-schedule multiplier — and it counts every match a Texas club played against any opponent in the country, not just in-state opposition. Win-rate percentages in this list are the club’s overall record across all opponents, nationwide. Data window: matches from September 2025 through 2026-06-17 22:00 UTC. Clubs need at least three rostered teams with completed match data to qualify for the state rankings. Texas just took #1 — and the gap matters

For the first time in our recorded data, Texas is the #1-ranked girls club volleyball state nationally — a state score of 86.81 against California’s 86.57. The margin is narrow (0.24 points), but the underlying shape is different. California fields 303 ranked clubs and 4,108 teams; Texas fields 283 clubs and 3,658 teams — slightly less breadth, but more concentrated elite density. Texas produces 679 elite teams (1700+ Elo) across 85 elite clubs — and crucially, Texas now fields 96 more elite teams than California (679 vs 583) despite California’s larger total roster pool. That elite-density advantage is what moved Texas to #1.

Texas’s top club, Texas Advantage (AKA TAV), runs 14 elite teams out of 18 rostered (78% elite-team density), the deepest concentration in the state. The flagship squad — TAV 16-Black yun — sits at 2,382 Elo and #3 nationally in the 16s, with a 62-9 record across all opponents this season. No other Texas club fields 14 elite teams; the next-deepest is Dallas Skyline at 27 elite from 41 rostered (66%).

The Lone Star vs. North Texas split

The geographic concentration is sharp. Of the 25 clubs in this list, 11 are based in the North Texas region (the Dallas / Fort Worth / Plano corridor) and 12 are in the Lone Star region (Houston, Austin, San Antonio). Only two clubs come from the Sun Country region (El Paso and San Marcos). Lone Star is the #7-ranked USAV region nationally (region score 81.49); North Texas is #8 (score 81.12). Both are higher-ranked than any other Texas region, and together they account for 92% of the state’s top 25.

The two regions field different shapes of programs. North Texas is denser per square mile: 75 ranked clubs producing 281 elite teams — roughly four elite teams for every club. Lone Star covers a much larger geographic footprint and has more total clubs (249) but a lower elite-to-club ratio. Practically: a 17s parent in Dallas can drive to Texas Advantage, Dallas Skyline, MADFROG, and Excel inside the same 30-mile radius. A Houston parent has Houston Skyline, HJV, and HOU STELLAR to choose between, but the elite options thin out fast.

Four flagship teams in the national top 10

Beyond the club-level composite, the team-level Elo numbers are where Texas girls volleyball makes its case for #1. Four Texas teams sit inside the national top 10 in their age cut: Dal Skyline 14-Royal-erin (Dallas Skyline) at 2,413 Elo and #2 in the 14s, MADFROG 15-N green at 2,449 Elo and #2 in the 15s, Alamo 16-Premier at 2,320 Elo and #4 in the 16s, and Arete 13-Navy telos at 2,206 Elo and #10 in the 13s. Texas Advantage 16-Black yun (#3 in the 16s) and H Skyline 15 Royal (Houston Skyline, #7 in the 15s) round out a six-team top-10 footprint. That nationwide reach is the structural reason Texas’s state score beat California’s this year.

A note on Skyline 14-Royal erin (from the Skyline satellite in Dripping Springs): it sits at 23-0 on the season — the only undefeated team in the Texas top 25. The 100% win rate against a regional schedule has earned it 2,222 Elo (#19 nationally in the 14s); a strength-of-schedule test at a national qualifier this summer will determine where it ranks by season end.

The size outliers tell two stories

Two clubs in the top 25 field rosters that dwarf the median. AP (AKA Austin Performance, based in Austin) carries 69 teams — the largest organization in the Texas top 25 by a wide margin — but produces only 14 elite teams (20%). That is a participation-first model: broad community reach, lots of recreational on-ramps, a small high-performance tier. The composite score lands AP at #20 in-state because the breadth contributes to the formula, but the elite-density gap is real. The other notable size outlier is FH (AKA Fieldhouse Volleyball Club, Frisco), with 61 teams and 20 elite (33%).

The opposite shape is TX STORM: only 10 teams, 4 elite, based in El Paso — the only top-25 club from Sun Country. That 40% elite-to-total ratio is exceptional given the geographic isolation. TX STORM’s flagship 16 SMACK plays a national schedule from a base 600+ miles from the nearest Texas top-25 peer; the strength-of-schedule multiplier in our Elo system rewards exactly that kind of travel. Worth watching as it grows.

The new entrant: TX LEGACY at #25

Tomball-based TX LEGACY (AKA Texas Legacy Volleyball) enters the top 25 this season at #25 with 27 teams and 8 elite, anchored by TX LEGACY 15 ELITE at 2,031 Elo. A 59.4% overall win rate and a Lone Star Region footprint outside the Houston city core puts it in the same conversation as Alamo and SA Juniors — programs whose elite-team count is small relative to their roster but whose top squads punch up. If TX LEGACY adds a second elite team in the 14s or 16s next season, it has room to move into the high teens.

What this list does not measure

Three things deliberately left out of the VolleyLens club score, in case they matter to your decision:

  1. Coaching staff continuity. A first-year head coach at Texas Advantage and a 15-year head coach at Austin Junior Volleyball are scored identically by us — match results don’t know who’s on the bench.

  2. Recruiting placement. We do not track college commitments at the club level yet. A club whose 18s send eight players to D1 programs and a club whose 18s send zero are indistinguishable in this list. Texas has historically been a top-three feeder state for NCAA Division I women’s volleyball; the placement-vs-Elo correlation is real but it isn’t what we’re measuring here.

  3. Practice intensity, travel cost, scholarship policy. The score answers “how well did the teams perform?” — it does not answer “is this the right club for my family?” Texas clubs in particular show wide variance in tuition, travel-tournament expectations, and scholarship availability — talk to current parents before you decide.

For those, talk to current parents and visit a practice. The numbers are necessary; they are not sufficient.

How are the regions (North Texas, Lone Star, Sun Country) defined?
