This page is a live snapshot of what VolleyLens covers across the 2025-2026 club season, drawn from the same database that powers every Elo rating, team page, and prediction on the site.

How many youth club volleyball teams are there?

For the 2025-2026 season, VolleyLens currently tracks 50,946 youth club volleyball teams across 7,420 clubs. The girls side is much larger by sheer team count — 46,625 girls teams from 6,310 clubs versus 4,321 boys teams from 1,110 clubs — a roughly 10.8-to-1 ratio that lines up with what the national age-group registration data shows. "Tracked" here means the team has played at least one tournament match this season; teams that exist on paper but never crossed the net are invisible to the rankings.

Which age groups have the most teams?

The team distribution skews toward the middle of the age-group ladder, with 14U through 16U the most densely populated divisions on both the girls and boys sides. The table below shows the full per-age-group split for the current season.

14U is consistently the largest age group on the girls side, which mirrors the structure of national qualifiers and the timing of high school tryouts — many programs run their largest single-age cohort there. On the boys side, the older age groups (16U-18U) carry more weight than they do for girls, because boys high school volleyball is far less common across most of the country and club is the primary competitive outlet for older players.

How many matches and tournaments have been played?

Across the 2025-2026 season to date, the dataset includes 0 matches spread across 3,572 tournaments. Every match feeds the Elo update; the more matches a team has played, the tighter the confidence band on its rating.

Tournament counts run lower than match counts by orders of magnitude, which is normal — a single regional tournament can produce hundreds of matches. The girls-side tournament total is dramatically larger because the girls club season is the dominant calendar, while boys volleyball runs a leaner, more concentrated schedule with most national-level play stacked between January and April.

Which clubs and teams are on top?

Rankings are recomputed after every ingest cycle, so the leaderboard you see below reflects the current state of the model. Teams are ranked by Elo rating, which weights both opponent strength and tournament context — beating a higher-rated opponent at a national qualifier moves the needle more than the same result at a local tournament.

Where is club volleyball played?

Geography shapes the club volleyball ecosystem more than almost any other factor. The states below have the deepest combined footprint — most teams, most clubs, and the strongest concentration of nationally competitive programs.

California, Texas, Florida, and the Midwest belt (Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin) anchor the top of the list and tend to produce the highest-rated teams across all age groups. They run more weekends, more brackets, and more inter-club competition than anywhere else, which means ratings stabilize faster there — and the top of the national rankings disproportionately reflects programs from those regions.

What are the most-followed clubs this season?

Club rankings aggregate every team a club fields, weighted toward the strongest teams and the depth of competitive teams below them. The table below shows the top clubs on the girls side by current club score.

The best clubs tend to combine an elite top-end team with deep B / C / D depth — Texas Advantage, Circle City, 1st Alliance, A5, and the rest of the top tier all field large numbers of competitive teams across age groups, which is why their aggregated club scores stay near the top of the national leaderboard.

How is this data collected?

Every match in the dataset comes from a publicly posted bracket, results page, or tournament feed — AES, AdvancedEventSystems, AAU bracket exports, JVA tournament results, and a growing list of regional circuits. Coverage gaps are real: a team that plays exclusively in a circuit we don't yet ingest won't appear in the rankings until it crosses paths with one we do. If you spot a tournament missing from a team's record, the fastest way to fill in the picture is to send us the bracket file.
