This page is a live snapshot of what VolleyLens covers across the 2025-2026 college club season, including both men's and women's divisions across the entire sanctioning landscape.

How many college club volleyball teams are there?

For the 2025-2026 season, VolleyLens currently tracks 1,129 college club teams from 813 institutions across 19 conferences. The men's and women's sides are roughly the same size — 592 men's teams from 424 programs and 537 women's teams from 389 programs — a striking contrast with the youth side, where girls teams outnumber boys teams by an order of magnitude. The reason: NCAA women's volleyball saturates the four-year college market, so club women's competes for athletes against NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and junior college programs. NCAA men's volleyball, by contrast, has fewer than fifty Division I programs nationwide, and college club is the primary competitive outlet for most men's players.

Which conferences and sanctioning bodies are covered?

The dataset pulls match results from every major college club sanctioning organization. The three biggest are NCVF (the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation, the largest by team count), ECVA (the East Coast Volleyball Association, concentrated in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic), and SIVA (the Southern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, anchoring the Southeast). Within NCVF, regional conferences — MIVA (Midwest), MWPVC (Mountain West / Pacific), SCCVL (Southern California), NWVCL (Northwest), WVC (Western), and others — run their own regular-season schedules and feed into nationals.

All conferences feed into the same Elo model. A team's rating reflects how it has performed against everyone it has played, regardless of which sanctioning body ran the tournament — so cross-conference matches at events like NCVF Nationals actually move ratings the way they should. This is the only national rating system that places ECVA, SIVA, and the NCVF regional conferences on a single comparable scale.

How many matches and tournaments have been played?

Across the 2025-2026 season to date, the dataset includes 10,872 college club matches spread across 286 tournaments. Feb 2026 was the heaviest month of the season so far, with 4,569 matches played — 2,445 on the women's side and 2,124 on the men's side. College club season runs January through April for most conferences, with NCVF Nationals as the capstone event.

Who are the top women's college club teams?

Women's college club is a smaller competitive pool than NCAA, but the top of the ranking is genuinely competitive — many of these programs send athletes who turned down lower-division NCAA offers to play at a larger university. Rankings are recomputed after every ingest cycle.

Who are the top men's college club teams?

Men's college club is where the strongest non-NCAA-D1 men's players land. Large state universities typically field two or more men's teams (A and B at a minimum, sometimes C and D), and the A teams at top NCVF programs play a schedule comparable in difficulty to NCAA D3 men's. Match counts per team run high.

How do the men's and women's sides differ?

On the men's side, college club is often where the strongest non-NCAA-D1 players land — a few NCAA D3 men's programs share athletes with the club leagues, and most large state universities field two or more men's teams. Match counts per team run high, and the top men's club teams routinely beat lower-division NCAA opponents in non-conference matchups. On the women's side, the institutional coverage is roughly comparable by school count, but match density per team can be lower because club women's teams compete in a market crowded with NCAA D1, D2, and D3 women's volleyball. The ratings adjust for this — fewer matches means a wider confidence band, and a team's position can move materially across a single weekend of competition.

How is this data collected?

Every match in the dataset comes from a publicly posted bracket, tournament results page, or sanctioning-body feed — NCVF tournament results, ECVA conference standings, SIVA bracket exports, and direct feeds from regional conferences where they're available. College club coverage is the part of the dataset we're growing fastest. If you have results from a regional tournament we don't yet ingest, tell us — bracket files are usually all we need to add the event.
